As part of the City of Tampa’s Stormwater Improvement Program, the South Howard Flood Relief Design-Build project is a much-needed capital improvements project aimed at alleviating flooding within the City’s stormwater improvement area.
The project consists of design and construction of a major stormwater conveyance system that includes more than 8,000 linear feet of box culvert, pipes, and drainage inlets.
The current project budget is $64.5 million. A portion of this budget will be used to resurface streets directly adjacent to the project corridor, including those that will be used for local detours in an early-works phase to better manage local traffic and on-street parking during construction. The total project budget estimate is based upon preliminary engineering and design. The selected alternative segment, market conditions and cost of materials, labor and other factors will affect the total construction cost.
Beginning in February and continuing through May 2025, field technicians will be performing early investigations/survey work as part of early-works and project design activities. This work will take place Monday through Friday, between the hours of 7a.m. and 7p.m. Travelers should remain mindful of crews, vehicles and equipment when traveling within the project area. Project activities and schedules are subject to change due to weather and other unforeseen circumstances.
